Step 2: Maintenance and participation are key
After our information sharing platform has been built, you can download our app, which includes a map of the sidewalk. You can use it both to assist you in your travels and to help keep the system up to date and accurate. Your contribution is crucial, not only to help everyone get around, but also to keep them safe.
You can see some sidewalk safety markings on the map, and if a piece of the map is orange or even red, please tell government officials immediately that it may be troublesome or even dangerous for non-professionals, and if you see one that meets the orange or red criteria but is not marked, you can take a picture and upload the time-stamped information in a timely manner, and the reviewed information will be milked by the system and updated immediately, it’s that simple!

Step 3: Cooperation and Public Decision Making
A positive community can bring a lot of reputation and encouragement. A community of sufficient size can attract businesses and NGOs to work with us. There may be objections that commercial partnerships and capital will sour the project, or that no commercial company will participate in a project that is not profitable. But maintaining a large enough platform can be costly, and active contributors need to be incentivized to some degree.

Step 1: Build a Platform for Information Sharing
Through the fieldwork we found that it is necessary to monitor and share information about the sidewalks. There may be counter arguments that this is a waste of resources and effort. But my counter-argument is that building such a system is the equivalent of a seat belt for pedestrians, and according to CrashStats by CDC in 2017, in Pedestrian Location, only about 9% of injuries are in the non-trafic area, which is broadly defined as the sidewalk.

Problem, critical yet overlooked
It doesn’t take much to see that the vast majority of non-metropolitan areas in the U.S. have traffic plans that prioritize vehicles over walkers. It doesn’t take much observation to realize that the vast majority of non-metropolitan areas in the United States have traffic plans that prioritize vehicles over pedestrians. This of course has to do with the different prevailing traffic patterns and history of each area. For example, the northeastern United States still has railroads, although most of them are used for freight transportation.
