Step 3: Cooperation and Public Decision Making
A positive community can bring a lot of reputation and encouragement. A community of sufficient size can attract businesses and NGOs to work with us. There may be objections that commercial partnerships and capital will sour the project, or that no commercial company will participate in a project that is not profitable. But maintaining a large enough platform can be costly, and active contributors need to be incentivized to some degree.

Step 1: Build a Platform for Information Sharing
Through the fieldwork we found that it is necessary to monitor and share information about the sidewalks. There may be counter arguments that this is a waste of resources and effort. But my counter-argument is that building such a system is the equivalent of a seat belt for pedestrians, and according to CrashStats by CDC in 2017, in Pedestrian Location, only about 9% of injuries are in the non-trafic area, which is broadly defined as the sidewalk.

Problem, critical yet overlooked
It doesn’t take much to see that the vast majority of non-metropolitan areas in the U.S. have traffic plans that prioritize vehicles over walkers. This of course has to do with the different prevailing traffic patterns and history of each area. For example, the northeastern United States still has railroads, although most of them are used for freight transportation.
